Real People Art Story
It officially started in 2005. It probably really began in about 1971 - when I used to spend a lot of time drawing very precise super hero drawings - straight from the pages of my favorite comic books. Fast forward a couple decades..throw in some great music by the Doors, a couple sculpture classes, and my art began taking on a less precise look. While my primary art interest has always been sculpture, I have also spent a lot of time with cameras, pens, and paint brushes.
As my circumstances forced me to "grow up," I entered the official corporate workforce in the early 90s. At that time, I discovered an amazingly useful office supply item - Circa translucent notebooks by Levenger. These magical journals feature hard covers and really cool page layouts.
While most of the pages of my Levenger journals contain extremely important matters of business, many of them featured drawings reflecting something I heard, saw, or perceived. Like the time I was walking through the Boston Commons and I walked past a guy playing the guitar with a stear skull strapped on his head. The normal person would pull that sight into short term memory and probably forget it ever happened an hour later. I stopped one minute after walking by, pulled out my journal, and sketched a picture.
Jump to the year 2005 and hundreds of Levenger notebooks and thousands of drawings later - I am sitting in a meeting and one of my co-workers looks over my shoulder and says - "Cool drawing. You hit the nail right on the head. You should try to sell those pictures. I bet a lot of people could identify with them."
Long story short, I decided to try to go commercial with limited editions of my drawings. They can now be found at select retail outlets. I still do a lot of big paintings and sculptures, but they just add flavor to walls in the room where the band practices for now.
